Well howdy there pardners, and welcome to this here mod that I done whipped up. Thanks for coming, and I hope y'all like it.
So I still love Scorched Earth. It's a great map, I very much enjoy playing on it. It was the map that really got me into modding, and I've created a lot of mods based around it, some that are still going, and some that didn't age well and have been pulled from the workshop. One of those that was pulled was Ol' Jeb's Desert Survival. An ambitious project considering I was just starting off on my modding career, that became a mish mash of recipes, and stuctures, and tools, and armours, and had a lot planned that I never really got around to, and which really became largely obsolete when inter server transfers became a thing and a large chunk of the mod became un-necessary. However there was some good stuff in it, that when I do play on Scorched I end up missing, so this mod here is kind of Ol' Jebs 2.0, taking my favourite parts of what I had and revamping it for Ark in 2020 using stuff that I know now, or is available now that I didn't know, or didn't have back then.
So enough rambling, what this mod contains:
Reinforced Adobe:
Exactly what it sounds like, a full set of Adobe structures in a new darker colour scheme (I love the look of Adobe but hate how it's the same colour as the rest of the desert and I'm constantly losing my base!) with the structural resistance of metal structures, but with all the usual Adobe insulation properties.
The set has been updated to include Homestead structures such as triangle foundations and ceilings, large walls etc. and with a lot of annoying collision things from the original Adobe cleared up. New snap points have been added or shifted to make it S+esque, although to my liking, there are some snap points that S+ uses that I hate, so I haven't used them, and there are a few of my own unique twists, mainly with sloped walls and roofs. You can also enable no foundation support on the Reinforced Adobe structure set by using the .Ini option
NoFoundationsRequired=True
Asbestos Armour:
This was one of the stars of Ol' Jebs, and I had to bring it back. A heavy, high level, expensive, insulative armour set that protects its wearer from a host of environmental conditions and attacks, mainly focusing on those you'd encounter on Scorched Earth such as Sand Storms, Superheats and Wyverns. When I first created it I had to create a lot of the coding from scratch, which was a 'fun' learning curve, but this time around I've been able to lean heavily on the coding that exists for the Hazard suit, so you can think of this armour set as Hazard Gear, but for the desert. Each individual piece will protect you against one small buff, with the exception of the helmet which is functionally the same as a Hazard suit helmet or Gas Mask and will protect against Poison Wyvern, Swamp Cave, Basilisk etc. Equipping the full suit renders you immune to a whole host of different buffs and effects. Note though, that this suit will not provide protection from Radiation on Aberration. The suit also provides a lot of armour, with only Riot armour offering more from the vanilla armour sets, as well as having excellent insulation effects and also giving reduced damage from Fire based and Electrical based attacks (ie. Fire and Lightning Wyverns.) Like the Hazard Suit, the Asbestos Armour will lose durability when exposed to any of the debuffs that it protects against.
Debuff Immunity:
Boots; Oil Slick
Pants; Swamp Fever (that's the same as Hazard Suit Pants, hands up who knew that? I didn't!)
Shirt; Acid Haze (from Reaper death etc)
Gloves; Rare Mushroom fizzy vision
Helmet; Same as hazard Suit Helmet/Gas Mask
Full Suit; All fire based buffs, Sand Storm, Heat Stroke (will prevent it being increased, will not remove what you already have), Extinction Wasteland, Superheat, Mega Rabies, Bees, Aberration Spores, all Electric based debuffs. Reduces direct damage recieved from fire and electrical based attacks by 50%
Concussion Rockets:
Do you miss being able to KO Rock Golems with Rocket Launchers? Well I do. Concussion Rockets are the evolution of an idea that I've been wanting to do since the Ol' Jeb days, and now they're finally realised. Concussion Rockets are to KO'ing Raid Dinos what Tranq Darts are to regular dinos. They offer a large amount of torpidity, with a 'low' damage, and best of all, they only deal direct damage, not any splash damage at all meaning that when KO'ing a Golem, or a Crab etc. with Concussion Rockets, that last hit will not negatively effect your taming effectiveness. A 150 Rock Golem will be knocked out with about 23 rockets, so make sure to bring an extra Rocket Lancher (they break after 20 shots)
Net Gun:
Yeah it's been done before, but not in any mod that I wanted to use, so I added it to this one. The Net Gun was an item that was in the Scorched Earth files and never used, despite being pretty much fully operational, so with a few small tweaks here it is! Obviously, the Net Gun fires Nets. These will temporarily immobilise small creatures, will ground small flyers, and anything over a certain mass threashold will not immobilise but will significantly slow down. A Net hit lasts for 10 seconds, but hitting a dino (or player if you want) while the net is active will reset the time, meaning that you can if you desire work with a netting tribe mate to keep a dino indefinitely immobilised or slowed as long as you keep pelting it with nets. I've also made the Net Gun able to be used underwater, because why not?
Ranch House Grill:
Another revival from Ol' Jebs but updated for modern Ark. I always wanted to give it a nice stone grill/BBQ style model in the original but couldn't, but now thanks to Atlas and their lovely Grill I can! Hurrah! The Ranch House Grill makeover sees it now as a multi purpose cooking bench, able to craft anything that is able to be crafted in a Cooking Pot, Campfire, or Preserving Bin (ie Kibbles, Stews, Cakes, Cooked Meats, Jerkies, the whole lot) and of course as it's designed for use in the desert, it doesn't require any water source to be able to do so!
Smelter:
Again thank you to Atlas and your lovely Forge model, I'll be having that thanks! The Smelter serves a dual purpose, not only is it a bridge between the regular Forge and the Industrial Forge, cooking up 6 ingots at a time and available at mid game, but it is also the place where you craft up 'Hardened Clay' which is essential for Reinforced Adobe, Asbestos Armour and other items added by this mod. The Smelter also has a little trick in that it actually extracts heat from its surroundings, making it very comfortable to work around when the environment is already scorching hot!
Golden Idol:
Bestow Blessings on your flock with this craven icon! Powered by burning Gunpowder in lieu of incense, the Idol will bestow a buff of increased XP gain, increased health regeneration, and decreased food drain on any of your tribes dinos within its holy range.
KDS Crafter:
And finally of course, all items from this mod are crafted in this swanky crafting table. All credit for the model to the person who designed it, I will find out your name when I can remember where I purchased the model from. Thank you, it's lovely!
