What Is This Mod?
This mod provides a craftable tribute terminal created for and used on the Supreme Ark servers. The terminal is basically a portable obelisk, without the ability to summon bosses. It's great for giving players the ability to create their own cluster transfer points outside of having to use a tek transmitter, permanent obelisks, or supply drop crates.
In order to access terminal transfer abilities, you must have the "SA Terminal" engram learned. This important especially after a player uses a mind-wipe to respec where they will have unlearned the engram.
Other Use Cases
1) Efficient farming/gathering. You can take these terminals with you when out harvesting and upload full stacks to the "cloud" when the weight limit is reached. Great if you don't have the weight or want to expand your weight limit for harvesting so you don't have to make multiple trips.
2) Gatherling lag mitigation. In some high rate servers, it can be used to mitigate harvesting gather lag. The process is kind of annoying but it works. Details @ http://www.supremeark.com/news/gathering-lag/
3) Dino transport. Tamed a bronto or slow creature that can't be placed on top of a ramp or quetz platform? When the only option before was to walk it back to base, potentially from the other side of the map, this terminal allows players to upload creatures and download them back at base. Can also be used for mass dino transport for trading, etc.
4) Balanced for PVP. There is another mod out there that has similar functionality but has some critical flaws. Those flaws are:
- Can not be destroyed by other players and so ultimately the result is a bunch of the terminals littered about the map with the only ones able to remove them being the tribes that placed them down or admins. Once a tribe leaves the server, the only ones able to remove them are admins which can create a lot work and creates a problem if new players want to build in a location where there are terminals laying around.
- Does not decay (for servers that have auto-demolish decayed structures)
- Storage slots cannot be accessed by anyone other than the tribe that placed it
- Easily abused in PVP since there is no sort of signal to let people know that a terminal is being used in PVP.
This terminal addresses some of those issues. This terminal:
- Is able to be destroyed by anyone, including PVE servers (demolish option). This removes a lot of work from admins as players can easily destroy them if they are left behind.
- Decays. While the decay timer is rather long (currently 24 days), they will eventually decay if the timer is not refreshed.
- Storage slots and transfer capabilities accessible to anyone, not only to those who placed it down. This however does not mean that a player is able to see the files uploaded to the "cloud" by someone else since those uploads are stored on a per-character basis.
- This terminal emits a red beam of light, much like a tek transmitter. This allows to differentiate a vanilla transmitter from this mod. On the SupremeArk servers, we restrict the use of the craftable terminal in PVP given the crafting costs. Should anyone spot a red beam emanating from a location that is engaged in PVP, players are able to screenshot and report the incident so that admins can hand down punishment.
